Why did Doctor Strange not battle Thanos (Avengers: Infinity War) in the Mirror Dimension?

“Why did Doctor Strange not battle Thanos (Avengers: Infinity War) in the mirror dimension?”

It was almost literally the first thing he attempted against him.

The first thing Strange attempted was this;

Thanos is firing a blast (presumably) of pure Power Stone back as can be seen in that (unfortunately) rather small GIF.

Strange responded to the blast with this;

Thanos, on seeing the approaching attack, responded like this;

You can’t see it very clearly in the above GIF but if you’re watching it in a larger image (and with the benefits of pause/slow motion) then you can clearly see that both the purple Power Stone and the red Reality Stone were lit up as Thanos aimed his punch at the incoming Mirror Dimension.

So you’ve got both possible answers to “Why did Doctor Strange not battle Thanos in the mirror dimension” already shown during Avengers: Infinity War.

He either wouldn’t be able to get Thanos into the Mirror Dimension (which is what we saw during their fight) and if you wish to speak hypothetically and ask, “…but what if he HAD managed to get him into the Mirror Dimension..?” then the fact you’ve already witnessed how easily Thanos could prevent being taken to it shows exactly how easily he could escape it.

I briefly mentioned it above regarding the particular Infinity Stones Thanos used to prevent the Mirror Dimension ensnaring him but the very fact he has the Reality Stone as part of his arsenal would mean the Mirror Dimension would be pretty irrelevant to him.

Hell, the fact he even entertained the idea of facing the assembled Avengers and Guardians was pretty much a callback to the start of the film when Cull Obsidian went to step in as the Hulk was attacking Thanos only for Ebony Maw to stop him and tell him, “Let him have his fun.

With the Power, Reality, Space and Soul gems at his disposal at the time then there were countless ways for him to avoid having to face them at all or literally beating them with a thought.

The entire fight was simply Thanos attempting to get a measure of those he faced and, for all intents and purposes, “have his fun.”

Was the same with the scene on Knowhere when he had retrieved the Reality Stone from the Collector. He used it to create a localised “reality” purely to test if Gamora had it in her to deliver a killing blow to him and, also, for him to see what her reaction would be were she to have managed to.

Then he tested Quill in exactly the same way to see if he had the mettle to actually execute Gamora rather than let Thanos win.

If you think the Mirror Dimension would have affected Thanos in any way at all then you’d be pretty wide of the mark.
