Why didn't Black Widow get a big send-off in Endgame ?
Absolutely. This question was asked many times after Endgame to the Russo brothers. I saw it everywhere on Instagram and Whatsapp. I have seen dozen of memes on it too.
We just got to see a small condolence meet of the Avengers at headquarters river shore. As they were Natasha’s only family. Natasha was just a spy throughout a decade. She was not any celebrity and icon like Stark or respected soldier like Steve Rogers. No relations or connections everywhere. Her friends were limited and so was identity.
It was a confusing time when the Endgame Vormir scene came up. It was obvious as fans hadn’t thought about the death of either of the underrated characters before. Nat’s death made fans sad but it was unable to create a remarkable impact on their mind.
In the end, thing that mattered was the popularity of a person amongst fans. I can bet there are less fan-clubs or pages of Natasha than those of Tony Stark or Captain America. All-over, fans just gave her the title of “Bravest Avenger” after her sacrifice on Vormir. See, Sacrificing yourself is not that easy as you see it in imagination. Natasha knew the value of life and death as her past too was painful and unforgettable.
Natasha sacrificed herself so as to sum up all the sins (as per her psychology) committed before and restore the half vanished world. She didn’t let Hawkeye sacrifice because he owed her life and Nat’s “Sacrifice on Vormir” was definitely a pay-back to him.
Another reason, as stated by Russo Brothers, was Natasha had her solo movie coming this year (but delayed due to CORONA) so they didn’t focus on her funeral. and That was good idea to give a major importance to Tony’s pack-up from MCU.
Natasha’s less popularity among fans, true focus on Tony’s death and Russo Brothers' concept of solo movie was the reason Natasha didn’t receive much bigger send-off in Endgame.
