During the final act of Infinity War, when Thanos arrives and systematically beats down each of the heroes on his way to Vision, why does it take so long for Thor to arrive at the location?

There are three explanations for this:

Thor didn’t have a communicator.

Most of The Avengers who were in Infinity War’s final stand in Wakanda had some form of device to communicate. Thor, Groot & Rocket arrived via Stormbreaker-summoned Bifrost midway through the battle. They had no time to gather means of communication with the rest of the team.

Thor was too busy getting the Outrider ships to retreat.

Remember at the beginning of the battle when these ships landed violently & deployed the swarm of Outriders?

Well those ships were still there whilst the battle was going on, but when Thor arrived I’m assuming Proxima & Cull Obsidian decided to withdraw some of their forces as he was slaughtering them in droves. So some of the ships began to retreat.

The God of Thunder clocked this so he went to go and destroy them before they could escape, assisted by some Wakandan air support.

Due to this fact he was likely finishing off destroying these ships when most of the team was facing off against Thanos. Unable to communicate with them for the aforementioned reason.

Thor fell victim to quite possibly the most powerful filmmaking trope of all time.

Plot convenience.
